Lloyd's Chinese-built LPD certification register for the Corvette of the Royal Thai Navy and the Algerian Navy




Thai Navy and for the Algerian Naval Force Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding selects Lloyd's Register for two naval projects. The UK-based maritime classification society will provide warranty and certification services for ships being built in China.

The Royal Thai Navy project, a 210-meter Landing Platform Dock (LPD) vessel, is capable of carrying up to 800 marines and 20 amphibious vehicles and has a well-deck capable of deploying up to four LCAC (Landing Craft Air Cushion) vehicles of about 150 tons each.The ship also has two large hangars capable of carrying up to four helicopters, and a flight deck capable of operating two helicopters. The LPD ship's intended delivery date is 2023.

The second project will be designed and constructed according to the Naval Ship Rules of LR, consisting of a 96-meter Corvette. The Corvette is designed for operations within the Nation's Exclusive Economic Zone including patrol, escort and protection of maritime interests. The Corvette includes a 78-person helipad and crew, has a range of 3,500 nautical miles and is capable of top speeds in Above 27 knots. Delivery scheduled in 2022. 

The Royal Thai Navy will also use the LPD, in addition to its more traditional role in military amphibious operations Vessel for humanitarian aid and disaster relief missions. The vessel is an export variant of LPDs currently in service with the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy, which is also being constructed at HZ. LR will provide HZ with design and build certification services in accordance with LR's Naval Ship Rules.
